A gentle mermaid helps a boy on shore and learns that kindness makes magical friendships.
Far beneath the swinging waves lived a little mermaid named Mia, who loved to peek above the water. She watched sailboats drift and children jump on the sunny shore, always wondering what it was like to have feet instead of a tail.
One day, while playing hide-and-seek with her seahorse friend, Bubbles, Mia saw a boat with a laughing boy tossing bread to birds. Suddenly, he dropped his toy overboard and looked very sad. Curious and kind, Mia zipped through the sea, scooped up the toy, and set it on the sand where he’d find it.
Mia wished she could meet the boy and play beside him, but her sparkly tail could only swish in the waves. Later that night, Mia’s friend Ollie the Octopus wiggled by, juggling shiny pebbles. "Why the long face, Mia?" he asked. Mia told him about her wish. Ollie thought, then handed her a shimmering seashell. "This Shell of Surprises might help you for just one day. Just whisper your wish."
Excited, Mia whispered, "Please, may I have legs today?" In a twinkle, her tail became two legs. Mia giggled, wobbling onto shore for the first time. Sand tickled her toes and she wobbled a bit, but soon she was running and spinning in circles.
She found the boy building a castle with his toy. "Hello, I’m Mia!" she said. Together they built a sandcastle with shell windows and a funny seaweed flag. They played tag with gentle waves and watched crabs do their sideways happy dance. Mia showed him how to stack rocks just like coral towers. They laughed until their tummies rumbled, then shared juicy watermelon and the last piece of bread the boy had.
As the sun melted into the sea, Mia felt a gentle tingling and her legs turned back into a sparkling tail. "Will I see you again?" the boy asked. Mia smiled and handed him the shimmering shell. "Whenever you see shiny waves, I’ll be close by!"
Splashing into the sea, Mia was happy to be a mermaid, knowing she could always try new things and share kindness, wherever she swam or strolled.
Trying new things with kindness can lead to magical friendships!
