Henny Penny thinks the sky is falling and rallies her friends to tell the king, but learns it was only a nut.
Once upon a time, Henny Penny the little hen was pecking for corn on a bright and sunny day when—thump!—something tiny dropped on her head. Henny Penny jumped. “Oh my! The sky is falling!” she squeaked, her eyes going round like buttons. She had to tell the king, right away!
Off she ran, and soon met Cocky Locky, the rooster, flapping his wings near the barn.
“Why so fast, Henny Penny?” asked Cocky Locky.
“The sky is falling! We must tell the king!” said Henny Penny.
Cocky Locky blinked and hurried along. Together, they met Ducky Lucky by a puddle, playing in the water.
“Where are you going?” quacked Ducky Lucky.
“To tell the king—the sky is falling!” the friends said.
Ducky Lucky waddled along, and off they all went. Next, they saw Goosey Loosey, eating grass near the path.
“Why are you all running?” honked Goosey Loosey.
“We must tell the king—the sky is falling!” they all cried.
With a flutter, Goosey Loosey joined them. Soon, they met Turkey Lurkey, swinging his big red wattle.
“What’s all the fuss?” gobbled Turkey Lurkey.
“We must tell the king—the sky is falling!” the friends squawked.
Turkey Lurkey’s eyes got big. Together, the group hurried to the big garden gate.
A friendly woman was watering flowers. “Why are you all so noisy?” she asked, smiling.
“The sky is falling!” the birds cried, pointing to where Henny Penny got bonked.
The woman bent down and brushed Henny Penny’s soft feathers, finding a tiny brown nut stuck on top.
“Silly friends! It's just a nut from the tree,” she said with a chuckle.
The friends all stared, then giggled out loud. Henny Penny wiggled her toes, feeling a little shy, but the woman said kindly, “It’s smart to check before you worry.”
Henny Penny and her friends skipped home, laughing and looking up at the sky—just in case, but now they knew to look first before shouting!
Check before you worry—things aren’t always as scary as they seem!
