A hardworking ant and a playful grasshopper learn the value of sharing and helping each other.
On a sparkly, sunny morning, Abby the busy ant was hurrying across the grass with a crumb. Her friend, Gary the giggly grasshopper, was bouncing happily near the flower patches, singing silly songs. “Come bounce with me, Abby!” Gary chirped, grinning from ear to ear.
Abby shook her head while she packed her crumb inside her cozy little home. “I have to gather more food before it gets cold, Gary,” she said. “A full belly is a happy belly!” But Gary just laughed and did a twisting jump. “There’s food everywhere and so much sun! Let’s play tag!”
All summer, Abby marched back and forth carrying tiny treats, while Gary played, sang to the beetles, and made hats out of leaves. Abby would stop and wave. “Try picking up snacks for later!” But Gary tumbled through the grass, too busy daydreaming to listen.
Soon, the days got shorter and the air a little cooler. Abby hurried to finish filling her house. One blustery day, chilly wind whisked through the meadow. Gary’s song stopped, and he shivered under a curled-up leaf. He peeked into his tummy—rumble, rumble! It was empty.
Gary hopped over to Abby’s door and gave a gentle tap-tap. Abby opened it, and Gary saw her warm room with little piles of food. “Could I please have a snack?” he asked, his voice shaky.
Abby smiled and invited him inside. She gave Gary a warm seat and a crumb to nibble. “We can share!” Abby said, and they played simple games together to chase away the cold. Day after day, Gary helped Abby sweep crumbs and tell funny stories.
When the snowy days passed and the sun peeked out again, Gary bounced into the fresh grass beside Abby. “This year, I want to help you collect food,” Gary said. Abby clapped her hands with joy.
From then on, they gathered treats together and took playtime breaks too. Because sharing and helping make friends—and tummies—happier all year round.
