A hungry fox tries to reach some grapes but cannot, then decides he didn’t want them after all.
In the bright, sunny forest, a little fox’s tummy rumbled with hunger. He sniffed the air and saw something purple and shiny, way up high—a bunch of grapes hanging from a vine! The fox’s eyes grew big. “Yum! I want those grapes!” he said with a happy bounce.
He jumped up to try to reach the grapes, but they were too high. He hopped, once, twice, three times! Still, the grapes hung just out of reach. The fox sat down on the soft grass and thought.
He found a big stick and tried to poke the grapes, but they didn’t fall. Next, he spotted a nice rock. He pushed the rock under the vine and stood on top of it, stretching his neck as high as he could, but the grapes were still too far away.
He tried pulling the vine with his paws, but it only shook a little. The grapes still didn’t come down. The fox let out a little sigh and flopped down again.
After trying and trying, the fox felt tired. He looked up at the grapes. “Maybe those grapes aren’t tasty anyway,” he said, wriggling his nose. “Maybe they taste sour!”
As the fox walked away with his bushy tail wagging, a tiny bird in the tree sang, “Sometimes we want things just because we can’t have them!”
The fox learned that it’s good to try, but sometimes it’s okay if you don’t get what you want.
