The Tale of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle
Lucy meets Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, a helpful hedgehog, and together they return clean clothes to grateful animal friends.
Lucy loved playing on the hills by her house. One sunny day, she saw a tiny wooden door in the grass. Curious, she knocked gently. The door creaked open, and she peeked inside.
There was a warm, bright room. A little hedgehog named Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, wearing a red scarf, smiled at her. Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle was busy washing and folding tiny clothes. Socks and towels hung everywhere, and everything smelled clean and nice.
"Hello, dear!" Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle said kindly. She showed Lucy her baskets full of tiny soaps and pegs shaped like ducks and bunnies. “I help all my animal friends keep their clothes clean. The rabbits, squirrels, and even a messy old fox bring their things here!”
Lucy giggled, imagining a fox wearing socks. She watched as Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle washed baby mouse hats and bird scarves in soapy water. Steam floated up, making the little house feel cozy and snug.
“Would you like to help?” asked Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, offering a tiny washcloth. Lucy tried to fold it, but it fell and landed on Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle’s nose. Both of them laughed and laughed!
All day, they worked together. Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle told silly stories about the animals. She shared how bunny children sometimes lost their mittens and how silly ducklings wore socks on their heads.
When the washing was finished, Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle filled a big basket with clean clothes. "Let’s take these back!" she chirped. Lucy carried the basket outside. The sun made everything feel extra fresh.
